The highly anticipated new American play by Pulitzer Prize finalist TRACY LETTS (Bug, Killer Joe) made its Broadway premiere direct from a sold-out engagement at Steppenwolf Theatre Company. August: Osage County has been hailed by the New York Times as a “hugely entertaining…ripsnorter full of blistering, funny dialogue, acid-etched characterizations and scenes of no-holds-barred emotional combat.”
When their patriarch vanishes, the Weston clan must return to their three-story home in rural Oklahoma to get to the heart of the matter. With rich insight and brilliant humor, Letts paints a vivid portrait of a Midwestern family at a turning point that is “not-to-be-missed” (Chicago Tribune).
The critically acclaimed production of Tracy Letts’ August: Osage County is produced commercially by Jeffrey Richards, Jean Doumanian, Steve Traxler and Jerry Frankel, in association with Steppenwolf Theatre Company (Martha Lavey, artistic director; David Hawkanson, executive director).
The “dazzlingly good” (Chicago Sun-Times) ensemble from Steppenwolf reprise their roles for the Broadway run: Ian Barford (Little Voice), Deanna Dunagan (Bounce, I Never Sang for My Father), Kimberly Guerrero (“Seinfeld”, “The Sopranos”), Francis Guinan (Constantine), Dennis Letts (Infamous, Cast Away), Mariann Mayberry (Metamorphoses), Amy Morton (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest), Sally Murphy (Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof), Jeff Perry (“Grey’s Anatomy”, The Caretaker), Rondi Reed (Little Voice) and Troy West (Picasso at the Lapin Agile).
Anna D. Shapiro (The Pain and the Itch, Iron) directs the production. The design team includes Todd Rosenthal (sets), Ana Kuzmanic (costumes), Ann Wrightson (lights), Richard Woodbury (sound) and David Singer (original music).
August: Osage County began previews October 30, 2007 toward a November 20 opening. It is playing a 16-week limited engagement at the Imperial Theatre (245 West 45th Street).
Richard, Frankel & Traxler will also be producing the upcoming productions of Pinter’s The Homecoming starring Ian McShane and Mamet’s November starring Nathan Lane.
