(New York, June 19, 2006) Broadway’s best and brightest will take the stage at this year’s Broadway Under the Stars, a free public concert presented by Target. For the first time ever, this annual event will take place at Central Park’s Great Lawn on Monday, June 26th at 8:00pm. A fireworks finale will follow the performance.

Broadway Under the Stars, which kicks-off New York City’s summer outdoor concert season, is a star-studded salute to the musicals of legendary director and producer Harold Prince. It is produced by NYC & Company and The League of American Theatres and Producers, Inc. and presented by Target.

Among those taking the stage at the 2006 Broadway Under the Stars will be (in alphabetical order): Michael Cerveris, John Cullum, Christine Ebersole, Sutton Foster, Shuler Hensley, Brian d’Arcy James, Jane Krakowski, Rebecca Luker, Bebe Neuwirth, and this year’s Tony Award-winning “Jersey Boys” and more.

This year, Broadway Under the Stars will be directed by Tony nominated director and choreographer Jeff Calhoun (Annie Get Your Gun, Big River, Grease!). Choreographer is Chase Brock (Shenandoah, Ford’s Theatre, Washington, D.C.). Music Director Phil Reno (The Drowsy Chaperone, The Producers) will once again lead the live orchestra.

"Talk about 'a walk in the park'! How often does a director have the opportunity to work with this many of Broadway's most shining stars as well as 12 of the most accomplished dancers in the city? Collectively they have been nominated for over 40 Tony Awards and have garnered eighteen,” said Jeff Calhoun, director. “This is an evening of music from the shows of the greatest director/producer in the American musical theater. It doesn't get much better than this."

The recipient of 21 Tony Awards (including this year’s Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre) and a 1994 Kennedy Center Honoree, Mr. Prince directed the premiere productions of A Little Night Music, Cabaret, Evita, Follies, Pacific Overtures, Parade, Sweeney Todd, The Phantom of the Opera and the acclaimed revivals of Candide and Show Boat. His productions include Damn Yankees, The Pajama Game, West Side Story and Fiddler on the Roof.

Public may enter the park from West 81st Street at Central Park West or East 79th Street at Fifth Avenue. Persons with disabilities seating entrance is on East 84th Street at Fifth Avenue.
